London Heathrow 'most family-friendly airport'

London Heathrow has come top in a poll of the most family-friendly airports in the world.

American travel agents gave it 24.6 per cent of the vote for family-friendly airports outside the US, citing its special rooms for feeding and changing children and a range of age-appropriate play areas as key factors.

Older children could enjoy a flight simulator game and arcade stations throughout the airport, the American Society of Travel Agents (Asta) noted.

The world's busiest airport, London Heathrow serves more than 180 destinations in over 90 countries from its four terminals, with a fifth terminal currently under construction.

In second place in the poll came Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with an 18.4 per cent share of the vote, thanks to its designated play areas and educational computer games.

Frankfurt Airport was placed in third position, with London Gatwick in fourth and Singapore's Changi Airport in fifth.

Asta president and CEO Cheryl Hudak said: "With the emphasis on families, more and more parents are choosing to take their children with them, not just to see grandma, but on international vacations.

"Anyone who has travelled with small children knows what a life-saver a family-friendly airport can be."
